DIY- Easy Winter Hot Chocolates!

Winter is officially (unfortunately) upon us. Although I hate the freezing temperatures and nearly catching hypothermia from doing P.E, winter does have it's perks! I love sitting by the fire with my favourite show (currently the middle, it's soo good) and a hot chocolate. With that being said, I decided to share with you all some easy winter treats that you can make at home (they're also super easy). Let's get started!

Standard Hot Chocolate;
I know it's so cliché, but a good hot chocolate is a must in winter! I make mine slightly different to other people I know (I'm not a big fan of instant hot chocolate so I tend to stay away from that) and I think this way makes a much more creamy hot chocolate. You will need:
  • 1 cup milk (any kind you like; I use semi-skimmed)
  • 2 broken up slabs of chocolate (dark is best although you can substitute this with any kind you like)
  • 1 and a half teaspoons cocoa powder (only an alternative for the chocolate, don't add both!)
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
Ok so now we have all the ingredients, this is how you make it:
  • Pour the milk into a saucepan and leave it to heat up for about 15/20 seconds
  • Add the chocolate / cocoa powder
  • Stir in until the chocolates melted (if you're using cocoa powder stir until there's no lumps in it- or you could just sieve it in!)
  • When the chocolate has completely been stirred in, add the sugar
  • Finally leave to simmer whilst mixing occasionally. Try and make sure the milk doesn't boil completely as it won't taste as good)
  • Optional- Add some whipped cream on top
Peanut-Butter Hot Chocolate;
This is probably one of the nicest hot chocolates ever! I based my recipe off of one I found online about a year ago, yet I made it slightly differently. If you want to make it how you're 'supposed' to, I'll leave the website below! :)

For the ingredients they're all the same, however I use one less teaspoon of sugar. You'll also need about 1-2 teaspoons of smooth peanut butter (this recipe does contain nuts so if you're allergic it's just a pre-warning!

Again, how you make it is very similar to the first hot chocolate. Following the previous method, after you've added in your sugar begin to stir in the peanut butter. Again, try not to let the milk boil if possible.

That's it for today's post! As mentioned in my previous post I'm trying to vary them up a little, so I hope you all like this change.
